A Special Disney Birthday Weekend
There’s something extra magical about celebrating a birthday at Walt Disney World!
We’re heading to Disney World for a quick weekend getaway to celebrate my daughter’s fifth birthday, and since this isn’t a week-long vacation, I’m trying to pack light while still bringing everything we’ll actually need.
After plenty of Disney park days, I’ve learned that there’s a big difference between packing everything you might possibly need and packing the things that genuinely make a park day easier.
Here’s what’s making the cut for our Disney birthday weekend.

My Disney Park Bag Essentials
For a short Disney weekend, I don’t want to carry a huge backpack around the parks. I prefer a small crossbody or belt bag with just the essentials.
- Portable phone charger
- Small portable fan
- Sunscreen
- Sunglasses
- Lip balm
- Hand sanitizer
- Refillable water bottle
- A few kid-friendly snacks
- Poncho
- Small foldable tote
The foldable tote is one of those little things that’s easy to forget but incredibly useful. If we buy something in the park or suddenly have more things to carry at the end of the night, I have an extra bag without carrying a large tote all day.
What I’m Packing for Mila
Since this is a birthday trip, her outfits are definitely getting a little more attention than usual.
I’m packing a special Disney birthday outfit, comfortable sneakers, an extra outfit for the park, pajamas, swimsuit, light sweater and a few accessories.
Comfort is still the priority. A cute Disney outfit isn’t worth much if she’s asking to change two hours into our park day!
I’ll also keep a change of clothes for her easily accessible rather than buried at the bottom of our luggage.
What I’m Wearing to the Parks
My Disney outfit formula is pretty simple: comfortable clothes + REALLY comfortable shoes.
For a long park day, I’ll usually build my outfit around lightweight clothing and sneakers that I already know I can walk miles in.
I’m not breaking in new shoes at Disney.

What I’m Packing for the Hotel
Even for a weekend trip, Disney resort time is part of the vacation for us.
I’m bringing:
- Swimsuits

- Small pool bag
- Pajamas
- Toiletries
- Hair accessories
- Chargers
- Comfortable clothes for the room
- A lightweight sweater
I don’t want to overpack for the hotel because we’re only staying for the weekend.
What I’m NOT Packing
This might be the most important part of my Disney World weekend packing list.
I’m skipping the giant “just in case” bag.
For a short Disney trip, I’m not bringing multiple pairs of shoes for everyone, full-size toiletries, excessive snacks, several backup outfits or things I can easily buy at Disney if we genuinely need them.
Every extra item has to be carried, unpacked and packed again two days later.
For this trip, less is more.
A Few Things I’m Doing for Her Disney Birthday
Disney makes birthdays especially fun for kids, even without planning an elaborate celebration.
We’ll make sure she gets a complimentary birthday celebration button, and I’m planning a few little birthday surprises throughout the weekend.
I also want plenty of photos.
Some of my favorite Disney memories aren’t the perfectly planned moments. They’re the little reactions, outfits, snacks and things that happen while we’re walking around the parks.
That’s what I want to capture from this birthday trip.

One Weekend, Lots of Disney Magic
A Disney birthday weekend doesn’t require packing for every possible situation.
I’m focusing on the things that keep us comfortable, make our park days easier and leave enough room for a little birthday magic.
I’ll update this after our trip with what we actually used, what I could have left home and anything I wish I’d packed.
